 JEFF SMITH ALONG WITH HIS BROTHER CLINT WERE CAPTURED  BY INDIANS  ON SUNDAY MARCH 3, 1869 OR IN THE FALL 1869 , BY 10 LIPAN AND 15 COMANCHES. JEFF WAS SOLD TO APACHE CHIEF GERONIMO ("JEROME" GIVEN BY THE MEXICANS )  AN CHIRICAHUA APACHE. BORN ON THE HEAD WATERS OF GILA RIVER IN NEW MEXICO ABOUT 1834 APACHE NAME GOYATHLAY (ONE WHO YAWNS) HIS FATHER: TAKLISHIM (THE GRAY ONE) MOTHER: JUANA. JEFF WAS ABOUT 6 OR 7 YEARS OLD WHEN HE WAS CAPTURED. JEFF'S APACHE NAME WAS CATCHOWITCH (HORSES TAIL)AFTER THEIR RETURN  THEY HAD FORGOTTEN THEIR AMERICAN LANGUAGE . IT TOOK SOMETIME TO RE-CIVILIZE THEM AGAIN.

 CLINT SMITH WAS ABOUT 9 OR 10 WHEN CAPTURED BY 10 LIPAN AND 15  COMAMCHE INDIANS  ON OR ABOUT SUNDAY MARCH 3,1869 OR IN HE FALL 1869CLINT LIVED WITH THE COMANCHES 4 YEARS AND 9 MONTHS .  THE INDIAN CHIEF "TOSACOWADI"  (LEPORD CAT) AND HIS WIFE "LEPIS WERE HIS FOSTER PARENTS. CLINT WAS RETURNED AT AGE 15 OR 16.
